Council Consultation on Local Plan

    South Tyneside Council have published the latest draft Local Plan and will hold a public consultation event in East Boldon Junior School on Tuesday, 16 January 6:00 – 8:00pm.
    This is your opportunity to learn more about the new plan.

    Council Cabinet to Discuss New Local Plan on 3 January 2024

      A new draft Local Plan will be put before South Tyneside Council’s Cabinet in the New Year.

      Members will be asked to approve the updated blueprint for development in the Borough, so that further public consultation can begin.

      The Local Plan will provide a framework for where new homes, businesses, shops and leisure facilities will be built up until 2040, and ensure that the right infrastructure, such as roads and schools, is in place to support growth.

      The latest ‘Regulation 19’ publication draft is one of several formal stages that a Local Plan must pass, prior to adoption by the council.

      Boundary Review

      Ward Boundary Review

        The Local Boundary Commission for England are reviewing the ward structure in South Tyneside with a consultation which is open until 11 December 2023. Their latest proposal splits the existing Cleadon and East Boldon ward into two.

        Development of former Dove’s and Watson Tool Hire site

          Members of the Forum Executive and a senior representative of East Boldon Developments met on 21 September to discuss the company’s plan for the future use of their Station Approach premises, formerly occupied by Doves and Watson Tool Hire, and the role of the Neighbourhood Forum.

            South Tyneside Council’s Heritage Assets Documentation – The Local List

              For some time the Forum has considered that the Council’s Heritage Assets reference documents, including the “Local List”, were out of date and in need of review. 
              Following consultation the Forum submitted 12 new nominations to be assessed for suitability by an expert panel of independent judges.
              STC have recently advised that 9 of the 12 new nominations put forward by the Forum, have been accepted by the judging panel.

              Cleadon Lane Industrial Estate

              Avant Homes Proposed Cleadon Lane Development

                Avant Homes have made further amendments to some of the scheme documents in response to the recent comments submitted by the Forum and South Tyneside Council. The Council published the revised documents on its planning portal in early January 2023.

                The Council now proposes to take the proposed scheme to its planning committee on 13th February 2023.

                The Forum has provided further comments in response to the latest changes.
