A planning application has been submitted to South Tyneside Council for a 30 metre high telecommunications mast to be located in the field to the east of Cleadon Lane industrial estate. This is a replacement for the mast currently located within the industrial estate, which will be displaced by the proposed housing development. The proposed location is sited within the green belt and will make the mast much more prominent than the current mast. The Forum have objected to the development.

The Council has notified the Forum that it has refused planning permission for the scheme and that the applicant has appealed to the Secretary of State.
