Council Consultation – Speed Limit Reduction on A184

    South Tyneside Council are currently running a consultation which if implemented would reduce the existing 50mph speed limit on the A184 between the cricket club and the borough boundary to 40mph in both directions.

    The Forum were not notified about the consultation but the council has attached paperwork to a number of lampposts in the area. Details are available on the Council’s website (opens in a new tab)

    Please note that you only have until 19 March 2024 to let the council know your views on this change. The easiest way to do so is to email kathryn.ruddy@southtyneside.gov.uk as indicated below. The reasons for proposing the change does not appear to be available on their website but can be obtained by contacting them or by visiting the Town Hall during normal office hours.

    The effect of the Order will be to reduce the 50MPH Speed Restrictions on  Sunderland Road, East Boldon from a point 200.5 metres east of its eastern junction with Natley Avenue in a south easterly direction to the Borough’s boundary with Sunderland City (being an approximate distance of 1160 metres) to a 40MPH Speed Restriction.

    Full details of these proposals are contained in the draft order which, together with a plan showing the lengths of road affected and a statement of the Council’s reasons for proposing to make the Order, may be inspected from Monday to Friday during normal office hours at the Town Hall at the address below.

    If you wish to raise an objection, express support or make any other observations about these proposals, you must make them in writing to the Council’s Legal Services Department at the address below or by using the same email address above by the 19 March 2024. Any objections must specify the grounds on which they are made.
