Join us on Saturday 25 October 2025 at St. George’s Church, Front Street to help raise further funds to improve the green space in front of the church.
At our April event we raised over £1000 to cover the costs of the first phase which included ecological surveys and planning. The next phase requires the development of a Landscape Management Plan.

Delivering your vision for the village
At consultations held in the development phase of the Neighbourhood Plan it became clear that you wanted to see improvements to the overgrown site in front of St George’s church. The approved version of the plan included reference to the site in Community Action 2 “Enhancing the Village Environment” (extract below):
Work with South Tyneside Council, landowners, local community groups and other relevant stakeholders to discuss opportunities to enhance the village environment, such as by:
• Improving open space maintenance for example at Grange Park and the land at St Georges Church;
• Enhancing green spaces around the war memorial and church;
• Seeking to ensure that sites identified as local green space have appropriate management arrangements in place
This Project
The land in front of St George’s Church, which is owned by the council and bequeathed to the local people was designated a Green Space by your Neighbourhood Plan. This project aims to deliver the items included in Community Action 2 shown above.
A group of volunteers from the Church, Forum, Friends of the Park and adjacent residents led by Mario Minchella Architects, has worked with the Council to seek a sustainable solution to its future including an expression of desire by our community to retain all healthy mature trees on site. A Tree Protection Plan is also being produced.
Planning Permission is required for this together with costly ecological studies and surveys.

Kirstin Richardson, Chair of the Forum, has said:
“a number of people have already donated money to get us to this point, but without further help to raise the remaining money, it will be difficult for the scheme to proceed”.
EBNF and those involved wish to thank Minchella Architects for their generosity in supporting this scheme at no cost.
A Biodiversity survey carried out by ECOSURV in June 2024 suggests that there will be an increase in biodiversity as a result of the scheme.
